There are lots of different activities to suit all tastes in this area of Scotland. Too many to do justice to from a small web site like this. Never the less we have added some of the more local ones just to give a flavour. There is a file at the cottage with additional pieces of information about the area.
There are a number of local hotels and inns serving food in Fintry and a wide variety of places to eat in Stirling, information on a selection of them is kept in a file at the cottage.
Ten minutes down the road one way is the Loup of Fintry waterfall.
You can admire them, stand on the edge of them or jump into them. The first two activities tend to be more popular with our older visitors.
Five minutes up the road the other way is an entrance to the Carron Valley Forest with walks and cycle routes around the Carron Valley Reservoir. Bike hire is available from the Carron Valley fishing centre by the dam (Tel. 01324 823698)
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs provide enormous variety just a short distance away. Ben Lomond is a popular climb in the Loch Lomond area, the most southerly of the Munros at 3,195 feet it towers over the eastern banks of Loch Lomond and clouds permitting offers superb views extending across much of the Southern Highlands. There are many less challenging but equally interesting walks throughout the area.

Stirling Castle - situated at the head of Stirling's Old Town and built high on an old volcanic outcrop that can be seen for miles around.

The Old Town Jail - first opened in 1847 - experience what it was like to be a prisoner in here at the time.
The Wallace Monument - stands in beautiful woodland and is one of the best places from which to view Stirling itself.
The Bannockburn Centre - learn about William Wallace, Scotland's Braveheart who had his greatest victory at Stirling Bridge, where in 1297 he led his men against the English army of Edward 1 and also about the legendary Battle of Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated Edward II of England.
The
Falkirk Wheel is the world's only rotating boatlift and is used to connect the
Forth & Clyde and Union canals in central Scotland.
This magnificent, mechanical marvel has been constructed to 21st Century,
state-of-the-art engineering and it is already being recognised as an iconic
landmark worthy of Scotland's traditional engineering expertise.
